Recording & Studio
I approach recording with the same focus I bring to live performance: serving the song. My goal in the studio is to provide clarity, consistency, and musicality that supports the bigger picture.
I’ve worked across a wide range of recording contexts: from live sessions and broadcast performances to highly produced studio albums and raw, in-the-room live records. I’ve recorded with my own voice as a player, but also in support of artists looking for that one great drum take to bring their song together.
My playing is rooted in rock and funk but shaped by jazz, fusion, and popular music, which allows me to adapt to different artists and genres while still keeping a personal sound. I’m proficient playing to a click, layering takes, and tailoring parts to the demands of the session.
My recording work has been broadcast on channels including BBC Jazz Nights, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland, and Jazz FM.
For me, there’s something uniquely rewarding about capturing a performance in the studio and watching music come to life. I’m always keen to get in the room, collaborate, and help create tracks that feel alive. If you’re looking for drum tracks for your project, get in touch.

Live Performance
Live performance has always been at the heart of my career. I’ve toured across the UK and Europe and appeared at major festivals and highly regarded venues including The Usher Hall (Edinburgh), The Jazz Dock (Prague), and Pizza Express Live (London).
I’ve worked in just about every type of live setting: from intimate jazz clubs and grassroots venues to large theatres, festival stages, and corporate events. Along the way I’ve performed with original artists and bands, tribute shows, theatre companies, late-night funk bands, and high-level function agencies, as well as being called on regularly as a trusted dep for my peers. That variety has shaped me into an adaptable, dependable player who can step into almost any situation and serve the music with confidence- often on very short notice.
My approach is rooted in the philosophy of the drummers I admire most: play exactly what the music needs, with intention and clarity, while always keeping a personal sound. Whether that means driving a rock band, underpinning a funk horn section, or holding down a groove in a pop song, I aim to create the kind of feel that lifts the whole performance.
I take pride in being reliable both on and off stage: from showing up prepared and professional to bringing the right gear for the job. For me, live playing is about connection: with the musicians beside me and with the audience in front of us. That’s the energy I try to bring to every show.
Who I Play With
Alongside freelance work, I’m involved in a number of ongoing projects that each highlight different sides of my playing.
-
Mahuki – A jazz-fusion group led by Scottish Jazz Award nominee Honza Kourimsky, combining cinematic energy, spiritual jazz, groove-driven writing, and improvisation. Described as “Symphonic Fusion,” Mahuki has been highlighted by press as “the Scottish answer to the Ezra Collective” and “high-energy jazz from Edinburgh” (BBC Radio Scotland). I’ve recorded albums and live sessions with the band, toured the UK and Europe, played numerous festivals and performed with artists such as Soweto Kinch and Liam Shortall. Our music has been broadcast internationally and the band was shortlisted for the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award in 2024.

-
Killerhorns – A funk and soul outfit I lead, built around tight horn arrangements and high-energy vibes. We’ve spent the last few years honing our music to packed out audiences in The Jazz Bar and have appeared at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, with our first live album due for release in 2025 and our first tour scheduled for 2026.

-
Aja! A Steely Dan Tribute – I’m the bandleader and drummer for Scotland’s premier Steely Dan tribute, which debuted at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe with a sold-out run. The band brings together some of Scotland’s top players to recreate the sophistication and energy of Steely Dan’s music.

Kat Brooks – I record and perform with Kat Brooks, “Edinburgh’s Gospel Queen”, both on her original material and in her long-running, sell-out show Etta and Gladys: Glamour and Grit.
In addition to these projects, I maintain a busy freelance schedule, working with function bands, touring productions, and corporate acts, as well as regularly stepping in for peers as a trusted dep. This mix of long-term collaborations and one-off shows keeps me adaptable and gives me the chance to play everything from rock and pop through funk, soul, jazz, and beyond.
